They’re epic fantasy, or high fantasy. This type of fantasy has its own world, different from ours. There is usually a hero, a mentor, and some sort of dark force. One of the main themes is the battle between good and evil.
In Lord of the Rings, the storyline in intricately-plotted with lots of world-building, and it’s leisurely-paced. Because of the awesome world-building, there is a strong sense of place. One of the main themes in this story is friendship.
Okay, so let’s talk read-alikes
When it comes to choosing read-alikes, a good starting place is to figure out what you (or the person you're helping) liked about the book or author in question. There are many different elements to a book, so finding the right one and looking for other books with similar elements is a great way to begin. When doing general read-alikes, there are usually a mixture--some books with matching genres, some books with matching pacing, some books with matching literary styles, or a combination of such, etc, etc. Today, I'll be doing some general genre read-alikes!
