Hey guys.
The second week of March is over and I can’t believe it! Time flies by so fast. I know people say that a lot, but today is one of those days were I really feel the truth in the statement. Ever since I graduated Uni, I’ve felt time flying by even faster. I think this is because there are less milestones and markers of time. There are no papers to fret about, no exams to dread, no summer vacations to look forward to. Time just keeps flowing by until I stop and think about it. It feels like Christmas was just yesterday, and it was already three months ago! Don’t even get me started on my nephew. That little cutie is growing too fast!
I’ve managed to have the last three ish days off of work, and I’ve done absolutely nothing productive. I’ve been throwing everything on the floor, not doing dishes, laying around watching TV, that sort of thing. I haven’t even done much reading! I finished listening to the audiobook of Seraphina by Rachel Hartman, and then… Just didn’t read anything else. I think I’m having a mid-book slump. I’m also reading The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro, and it’s going by really slowly. It’s not that it’s a bad book, it was just hard to get into. And, for me, it’s just not a quick read. It’s a literary fiction that reads like a Medieval allegory or legend, and it’s just taking me a while to get through. Not only that, but All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven and Bone Gap by Laura Ruby are sitting on my shelf calling me! But, I’ve promised myself I’d finish this one before I start anything else so I can review it! But still, there they are… “Beth. Bethhhh, read us, read us!”
I don’t know about where you live, but where I live it feels like this winter is just snow storm after snow storm. That would be all well and good if I was in grade school (woohoo! snow days!), but now it’s just exhausting. I still have to work, and sometimes have to shovel. Like yesterday. We had a big storm with high winds and the drift on the walkway was past my waist. My lovely brother came over with his snow blower, but I shovelled the walk. Man am I out of shape. And terrible at shovelling. I tried to lift with my legs but still managed to hurt my back. Did I mention I’m a wimp?
Since I was feeling sore, today I thought, Hey, I’ll take a bath! And I did, and now my skin feels great, but here’s the thing. I don’t like baths. Every now and then I’ll forget that I hate them, and get all excited and draw myself a bath. Then I get in and am like, Huh. This is it? I don’t find baths relaxing. I find them stressful. I’m weird, I know. Maybe if the tub was bigger? I don’t know. First, I found them boring. Music? Nah. Book? I think we all know that didn’t end well for the book. Movie? Too long. The water is either too hot, or lukewarm. I get fidgety after a while. They are okay for like, ten minutes and then I want out. Not really worth it! However, like I said, my skin feels pretty great. I used handmade vitamin E and lavender bubble bath, with a touch of vanilla soap, and a few spoonfuls of handmade bath salt. That part is not so bad. But, I think I’m going to stick with other means of relaxation. Cozy blanket, cup of coffee, hot water bottle, and a book—that’s more like it!
Speaking of which, coffee’s ready!
How do you relax on a snowy winter’s day? Or just on a day when you need to unwind?
